This is another commonly asked question for me so I’m just going to explain here.
First, I download the video onto my computer. I take all the screenshots myself to make the gif. I use VLC media player to play the video in…I just pause it where I want to, then go to ‘video’ and then ‘snapshot’ and it’ll save it. I just repeat that until I have all the screenshots I need. Depending on the video, I usually slow the video down so I can capture them better. You can do that by going to ‘playback’ and then ‘slower’. After that, I use Photoscape. There’s a function in the program called “anigif” and I put all the screenshots in there, and it makes a gif! I usually resize it so that it is under 500 kb for it to work in Tumblr.
To put text on a gif-
drag all of your screencaps that you’re using into ‘batch editor’, on the right side- click on ‘object’, check the box ‘text 1’, you can change the font/size/text if you click on the pencil looking thing, put it where you want on the screencap, click ‘convert all’ and it should save them all. Use the newly converted ones with the text when making your gif.
To upload a gif on tumblr-
You can put it in a photo post, or you can go to text post, look in the upper right corner for “Upload Photo”. The gif has to be under 500 kb in size in order to work on tumblr.
There are alot of different ways to make a GIF, such as photoshop, but this is what I’ve found that works best for me. I didn’t really go into specifics with this post, but if you have any further questions, feel free to ask me.
